How Mementolink works

Inscribed on Bitcoin. Independent of us.

Mementolink writes your chosen content to Bitcoin, a public ledger secured by a global network of independent participants. The inscription does not live only on our servers; it can be checked outside Mementolink.

Why Bitcoin

A public record built to outlast a single company.

Bitcoin has operated as a public network since January 2009. It is maintained by independent nodes around the world, with no single company, government, or individual controlling the ledger and no single server that can switch it off.

After a Bitcoin transaction has confirmations, changing it would require redoing and overtaking the network's proof-of-work. In practical terms, a settled record is not something Mementolink can edit, censor, or delete.

This is why we use Bitcoin rather than a private database or a newer chain chosen for novelty. For a memorial, speed matters less than a record that can be independently checked years later.

How it works

    You compose

    Write what matters, choose a page style, and optionally add a photograph. Take as long as you need; nothing is published until you confirm.

    We prepare the Bitcoin publication

    We prepare the content itself for Bitcoin publication: text-only pages are published as text, while styled or photo pages are published as a composed HTML file. Mementolink does not separately archive your original submission as a storage service.

    Bitcoin confirms it

    Your publication is broadcast to the Bitcoin network and mined into a block. We wait until it is confirmed and independently viewable before calling the delivery ready. This usually takes about an hour; it can take longer when the Bitcoin network is busy.

    You receive your page

    We email you a public page link, a verification reference, and a transaction ID. Anyone can independently verify the inscription on a Bitcoin block explorer without trusting us.

What this means in plain language

  • We cannot edit your record after it is published. Neither can anyone else.
  • If Mementolink ceases to exist, your record is unaffected. It lives on Bitcoin, not on us.
  • Verification does not require trusting Mementolink. The Bitcoin network itself is the witness.
  • The page will not be quietly deleted, deprioritised, or shown ads. There is no algorithm in between.
